my 2 cents...

i'm in love with the interface, so i'll try to perform live with it. context : i'll play mainly percussion.

i've been trying to set the lightest and power free set. so, i bought a UCA 202 from berhinger, as well as a special cable to plug one or two mics on it : http://www.thomann.de/fr/cordial_cfu_3_fc.htm

i'm pretty a newb about sound devices as i mainly play percussion i acoustic situations.

i wanted to build a very minimalist setup but be able to record loud and tiny soundz, as well as very low frequencies.

my standard mics (shure SM 57 & 58) are not giving enough signal for the soundcard in this setup.

i had an old minidisc lying around, so the second experiment was to plug its special battery powered mic on the soundcard : still not enough signal

i ended - for nom- using the minidisc as a DI, record/pause enabled, then i had a line level signal to put into the UCA.

not bad, still cheap, stereo mic, low frequencies are correct. can be autonomous without power plug.

to be improved : how can i perform live with my output amplified, knowing that this kind of mic is acting like a static mic, and i'll have a lot of feedback ("repisse" in french) when recording various tracks.

has anyone tried this soundcard with a powered DI and a standard microphone ?

Hi Soifran !

The missing link between you UCA 202 (line level) and your mic (well... mic level ^^) is a preamp. What's a bit hard to find is a little, battery powered and cheap preamp.

I personally use an Art Tube MP which is both very cheap, of high quality and with a lot of gain. But I would not say that it's little and it's definitely not battery powered.

If you find this black cow, please share with us :) !!

Cheers,

Thanks for that quick reply !

That would fit ? http://www.felmicamps.co.uk/products/felbattpreamp.html

I'd rather XLR and cheaper battery size, though. Cheaper device, also.

One used there : http://fr.m.audiofanzine.com/preampli-h ... -annonces/

edit :

if i go to a wired solution i'd use that one i guess : http://www.behringer.com/FR/Products/X1204USB.aspx

they're advertising it there : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qa7eskFe8Wo

I think that would fit. As long as you use only dynamic mics of course. And you will need some cable adapters, as usual ;).

The Xenyx looks tasty, for sure ^^. It's a shame that it seems to only send audio, so no output from the mixer itself.

Cheers !

Sure it has some, but in these outputs, you will only hear a direct monitoring of the inputs, not the audio that comes from the iPad. In the EDL case, that's all the tracks being played :p.

The behringer guys told this in the YouTube comment section :

Does the USB connection allow you to plug headphones into the Behringer for monitoring multitracking?

@robertgilmore7 You'll be able to monitor the signal being sent via USB to the iPad via the headphone jack. If you want to monitor iPad playback, simply plug your headphones into the iPad. Cheers!

Hi MadPodTouch !

It seems that this accessorie doesn't work with the iPod touch. That's the case for the Apogee Jam too.

That's rather strange as there is not much differences between an iPod 4G and an iPhone 4. I bet that it's an unfixed bug rather than an technical incompatibility.

But whatever the reason is, you can't use it, so you will have to choose another accessorie, or maybe wait for iOS 5.1 that may restore the compatibility. But there is no guarantee about that, I might be wrong.

Cheers !
