I love Everyday Looper! It's a marvellous creative tool. There's just one more feature I could wish for that would, I think, be extremely useful to musicians. (If it's already possible to do this, please let me know how)

I want to alternate between playing and listening to short passages of music. If you've ever worked with a good instrumental teacher who will play a bar or two and have you play it back in alternation and always keeping the rhythm going, you know it's a very powerful technique for polishing difficult passages.

In the absence of a teacher, playing and then listening to what you just played is also useful but the flow of the rhythm is lost if you have to keep manipulating the recording equipment (especially if your instrument requires holding something in each hand, e.g. a violin))

So I'd like to see Looper offer an "Alternating Rehearsal" mode that would work something like this.

1. Establish a duration and tempo, e.g, 2 bars at 120 bpm.
2. Optionally record some accompaniment on one or more tracks.
3. Select one of the remaining tracks and put it into "Alternating Rehearsal" mode.
4. Until cancelled, Looper would alternate between recording the track and playing it back.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike !

Thanks for the feedback (and for the kudos ;)).

I get what you want to do and it's not possible right now. However it may be possible in the future with the addition of new MIDI actions.

For exemple, if I add the possibility of doing a "replace quantized recording on track X" when receiving a specific MIDI message, you could do it with a foot controller.

So I keep your request in mind :) .

Cheers !

Thanks, Raphaël. I'll look forward to seeing it in a future release. In the meantime, I think I've found a Mac/Unix program, SooperLooper, with enough programmability to let me write something that meets my needs. It won't be as convenient or as much fun as Everyday Looper, but I think I can put together a command-line interface that will do what I need in the practice room with my Mac.

If anyone's interested, what I'm proposing to write is described on the SooperLooper forum at

Great choice ! SooperLooper is a very powerful looper. By the way, his programmer, Jesse, wrote an iPhone app too. It's called Thumbjam, it's a sampler with a very well designed playing interface.

Cheers,

Raphaël

Thanks, I'll check it out. BTW, I now have a working version of the alternating rehearsal script posted in the SooperLooper forum. (See link in prior post).

Cheers,
Mike
